Janata High School, Mapusa defeated St Anthony High School, Guirim in the finals of Bardez Taluka Junior Nehru Hockey Tournament for under-17 boys played at Peddem sports complex on Thursday. The teams were level 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.
Asif Hubli gave the lead to Janata, while Saurav K of the Guirim school scored the equaliser in the second half. In the shootout, the Guirim boys couldn't convert a single spot kick while Abhishek Pathak scored the only penalty for Janata for the 2-1 win.
Chief guest Redanto D'Souza, former deputy director of Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sandip Palni, Headmaster of St Aloysius High School, Diwadi, Venancio Carrasco and Anant Sawal, Bardez Taluka Sports Organiser, were present for the distribution of certificates.
