The Dharbandora Taluka Truck Association (DTTA) has demanded an increase in transportation rate to Rs 14-15 per tonne per km for fresh and auctioned ore and a reduced rate for diesel at Rs 52.
At present, the truckers claim they get Rs 14 per tonne per km for auctioned ore and the diesel rate is Rs 58.85, while it is Rs 10.39 for fresh ore per tonne per km and a same diesel rate.
Addressing a news conference on Monday, DTTA president Vinayak Gauns requested truck operators to demand the revised rates demanded by the Association.
"The government has made it mandatory to pay charges of Global Positioning System and road tax annually. We want the government to give us relief by allowing to pay GPS charges monthly and road tax quarterly," Gauns
demanded.
The DTTA has also demanded concession in insurance payment. "Earlier, we used to pay Rs 15,000 to 20,000 for insurance. Now, it has almost become double," Gauns said.
Others present at the news conference included DTTA Secretary Yeshwant Bandodkar, treasurer Jitendra Naik, Mohan Gaonkar, Maschindra Desai and Shailesh Narvekar.
