Jivit - a Romi Konknni State monthly celebrated 25 years of Konkani's inclusion in the 8th schedule of our Constitution with a programme called Zoi Zoi Konknni Maim at the Conference Hall, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao recently.
The august gathering witnessed a large number of Konkani mogis across the State and even as far as neighbouring Sindhudurg. Konkanni literature students from MES College Vasco, Fr. Agnel College, Pilar and Carmel College, Nuvem were also in attendance. Prominent names like Rev Fr. Victor Ferrao, Anthony Veronica Fernandes, Adv. Radharao Gracias, Tomazinho Cardozo, Wilson Mazarello, Mario Menezes and Fausto V Da Costa spoke on the occasion on the significance of our mother tongue in society. The event saw the likes of Bony Alvim, Jose de Pedda, Arlind Miranda, Anthony San and Shunaina Baptista render their vocal chords, while photo-journalist Pio Esteves showcased his musical skills with a dual instrumental piece. Annie de Colvale and JP Fernandes recited poems. Jasmine Estibeiro, Deputy Editor, Jivit led the pledge to Konkani while Editor - Publisher - Jivit, Michael Gracias proposed the vote of thanks with a promise he would strive for the cause of Konkani with support from likeminded individuals. Seen in the audience were Konkani aficionados like Vincy Quadros, William Fernandes, Sharon Mazarello, Pascoal de Chicalim, Jerry Cal, Teotonio D'costa and Alleluia Fernandes.
