Reuben, Alaya win U-11 State chess c'ship

Reuben Colaco (Elo: 1409) of Loyola High School, Margao won the Under 11 State Championship in the Open category.

Reuben and Paarth Salvi both scored 6.5 points at the end of seven rounds as both remained unbeaten and tied for the first place. However Reuben was declared champion due to his higher Buchholz score of 29.50 points as against Paarth's 27.50.
In the girls category, Alaya Vella D'Cruz of Fatima Convent High School, Margao won the Under 11 State Chess Championship. She scored highest six points from her seven rounds. Both winners received a cash prize of Rs 2,000 and Championship trophy each sponsored by Vadanti Tari in the memory of her husband late Rohidas Tari ex- Dy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Goa.
Paarth Salvi of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School, Porvorim and Sanvi Bhikaro Naik Gaonkar of Mahila and Nutan English High School won the second prize in their respective categories. They received trophies and a cash prize of Rs 1,500 each.
Sai Kalangutkar of Deepvihar High School Sada, Vasco and Miss Sayuri Naik of New Goa High School, Mapusa won the third prize in their respective categories. They received trophies and a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each.

The event was organised by Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Kridaprabodhini, Porvorim Bardez jointly under the auspices of Goa Chess Association and Sports Authority of Goa at Swami Vivekanand Hall, Porvorim. 105 players participated in the tournament of which 23 players were FIDE international rated players.
The first two winners in each category are selected to represent Goa in the National under 11 Open and Girls Championship to be held in Maharashtra in November 2017. Arvind Mhamal was the Chief Arbiter of the tournament and was assisted by Avinash Malvankar and Gautam Tari.
Audoot Parrikar, President of Kridaprabodhini and industrialist was the Chief Guest of the function and gave away the prizes along with Vedanti Rohidas Tari, senior high School teacher of Government High School, Kasarwal-Bicholim.
