MARGAO
Bed shortage at the Hospicio came to haunt the hospital authorities on late Friday evening when a pregnant woman was made to wait for an hour at the hospital for want of a bed.
The situation has again brought to the fore the long delay in the commissioning of the South Goa district hospital which has been dragging on for over half a decade now.
It was only after an hour long wait that the woman from the city was finally accommodated in the hospital by joining two beds in the maternity ward.
The incident occurred at around 8.30 when the woman was taken to the hospital after she complained of pain. After examination at the casualty, the doctor on duty recommended to admit the woman in the ward as a matter of abundant caution.
However, when the woman and her relatives went to the maternity ward, the found to their surprise that there was no spare bed to accommodate her. She had to wait outside for a considerable time, around an hour, before the relatives called up a local Margao Municipal Councilor for help. It was only after the Councilor Rupesh Councilor intervened that the Hospital authorities made the necessary arrangement by joining two beds to accommodate the woman in pain.
People in the know said this is not the first time that the hospital staff had joined beds to accommodate women in labour pain for want of beds in the maternity section.
