Soon after the arrest and release debacle of the Curlies owner, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) sleuths swooped down on the premises of Curlies on Thursday and ordered its total shutdown for conducting the food and business operation in extremely filthy condition.
The FDA officials during inspection found the entire kitchen premises very unhygienic. The food items were stored in places which were unclean, while food handlers fell short of following basic hygiene conditions.
The inspection team also found that the kitchen was having direct access to toilets. Further, the shack owner failed to produce the FSSAI license.
"The shack fell short of 30 conditions as per the FDA rules and regulations," said Rajiv Korde, Senior Food Safety Officer, FDA.
The pictures released by the FDA bore testimony to the filthy condition inside the kitchen premises of the Curlies shack, which is a popular joint among party hoppers on Anjuna beach.
"The whole premises have been shut down indefinitely. They will have to comply with all regulations and only after our authorization can they re-start operation," Korde said.
The food inspector informed that the premises were not sealed only because the owner promised to renovate it.
"If we receive any information that he starts operation we will seal the premises," Korde added.
The food inspector told The Goan that the inspection drive will continue and FDA will inspect all other premises along the coastal belt.
Anjuna Police had arrested Curlies owner, Edwin Nunes on August 15 for
allegedly allowing a waiter to peddle drugs within his premises. The waiter was also arrested.
But since the quantity of drugs in the possession of the waiter was very small, Nunes got bail and was released within hours of his arrest.
