Congress candidate contesting the Curtorim Zilla Panchayat by-poll Moreno Rebello on Thursday expressed solidarity with the people of Sao Jose de Areal facing carbon dust pollution saying he would see that justice is meted out to the villagers.
Addressing the media, Moreno said he has personally seen how the coal has infiltrated in the life of the people around the factory in Sao Jose de Areal. "It is a fact that the situation is worrisome. The people of Areal have raised their heads against the pollution. I will be with the people and see that justice is delivered to the people",
Moreno added.
Asked to specify his demand, Moreno said the people of Areal have demanded that the factory comply with the pollution norms so that the health and lives of the people are not affected by the factory. "The people of Areal have been objecting for a long time and the agitations had fizzled out after they were thwarted by different individuals, including some politicians. I firmly believe that pollution should be stopped as it affects health and economy,"
he added.
"The villages should maintain Goem and Goemkarponn, the ruling government's slogan and strive to keep it with trees, coconuts, cultivation of paddy, vegetables along with the greenery and tranquility of all religions. That will be my endeavor to maintain the village, to the wishes of the people and will oppose any ill happenings in the village," he said.
