He also stated that efforts were underway to get GSL and Coast Guard to tie up with GAIL for use of CNG and LNG as cheaper and cleaner alternative fuel in vessels.
Addressing a news conference after commissioning the ‘ICGS Shourya', Pradhan said a proposal to this effect had been presented to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi.
"On Friday, I met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi during the swearing-in ceremony of Venkaiah Naidu as Vice -President of India and I proposed that the union government and Goa government should come together to create a green energy fuel chain in Goa," said Pradhan.
"I am 100 per cent sure that we can make green fuel in Goa and this will add to the tourism potential of Goa. This state can be an experiment ground under the dynamic administration of Parrikar."
Crediting Parrikar for first conceiving the system of lowering taxes on fuel and increasing sales, Pradhan said he had proposed to Parrikar that the Centre and Goa government could work out a business model on top priority on a pilot basis for green fuel.
"I take responsibility while saying Goa will be the first state in the Country for green fuel conversion," Pradhan told the media.
"Today in the Indian marine sector, we are using low sulphur high speed diesel, which is a pure form of fuel oil. Gradually, new fuels like CNG and LNG are coming and we have suggested to GSL and Coast Guard to partner with GAIL to have a pilot study on how we can use CNG and LNG as an alternative fuel which is cheaper and cleaner.'
