PI Nerlon Albuquerque along with his police team descended on the Cutbona jetty to carry out the panchanama of the fishing vessel owned by D'Silva on Wednesday evening.
D'Silva told the media that the police are investigating a matter which was reported around a year ago when his boat was used to bring another vessel to the jetty on suspicion that it was allegedly involved in bull trawling.
"There was a government notification banning bull trawling. Based on the notification, a group of fishermen had ventured out in the sea and had brought a vessel which was allegedly engaged in the activity," D'Silva said.
He demanded to know how come the police suddenly thought of conducting an inquiry in the case by conducting an panchanama of the vessel when the fishing vessel is due to begin five days from now.
"I suspect hanky panky in the entire case. The very presence of the police on the eve of the fishing season appears fishy. I fail to understand why the police had to wait for a year and investigate the case just days before the commencement of the new fishing season," D'Silva questioned.
