An order passed by Under Secretary (finance) Sushma Kamat on Wednesday stated that HRA and travel allowance for government employees would be hiked according to the pay scale.
According to sources, ‘D\' class employees would benefit from the maximum hike of 10%, while other government employees would get a 7-8% hike.
With this hike, a peon in a government job could stand to earn a minimum salary of Rs 23,000.
Doctors in the health department and veterinarians in the animal husbandry department will receive a 20% hike in Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA).
The implementation of these increased allowances, which is as part of the 7th Pay commission, will cost the government about Rs 20 crore per month.
Government doctors are prohibited from practicing in private clinics and hospitals, due to which they are entitled to an NPA allowance.
There was a plan to withdraw this NPA allowance and permit doctors to practice in the private sector. However, the government has now decided to implement hike in the NPA for doctors and veterinarians.
