Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club edged past CAC, Cansaulim 4-2 and entered the quarter-finals of All Goa 20th Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter-village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club at Church grounds, Chinchinim on Wednesday.

Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club led 3-0 at half time.
Sao Jose de Areal held the upper hand, especially in the opening session and created a scare in the early moments of the game when Bersel Viegas' snap shot was thwarted by rival defender. After that scare, CAC Cansaulim had a chance to surge ahead when Joseph Monteiro's stiff shot was well blocked by Joseph Monteiro. Sao Jose de Areal did not wait for long in the 4th minute when striker Bersel Viegas unleashed a snap shot that crashed into the net off a Peter pass.
Spurred by the lead, Sao Jose de Areal upped the ante and doubled the lead in the 14th minute when Bersel Viegas beat the rival goalkeeper off a well measured pass from David Colaco to register his brace. Six minutes later, Fredrick Endro added his name on the scorers' list in the 19th minute off a well-measured pass from Raymond Fernandes.
Bersel Viegas struck a second time to give his team a 3-0 cushion.
Crossing over, Cansualim were a dominant lot with their forwards showing urgency and troubled the rival defence with sporadic raids. Domnick Soares' well executed free kick eluded the rival goalkeeper.
The reducer helped CAC to mount pressure on the rival citadel and in the 38th minute, Jowel Baretto beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off Domnic Soares. Cansio Soares cancelled the lead in the 47th minute to put his team on equal terms. With time running out, Raymond Fernandes struck the match-winner to troop out worthy winners.
Sao Jose de Areal will meet CDJ Ribandar in the quarter-finals on August 3.
