Pomburpa-Olaulim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to write a strong letter to the local MLA, Power Minister, Chief Secretary and power department engineers about the difficulties they face due to constant power cuts.
The gram sabha also resolved that if the problem continued to persist even after the letter, then the panchayat should approach the court against the electricity department.
Raising the issue of frequent power cuts, a local, Anthony Lobo said since last 15 days there has been continuous power cuts in the village, due to which food stuff in refrigerators have spoiled even damaging electronic items like TV and computers.
"It's not restricted only to residential premises, commercial establishments have also been facing problem and this is happening only in our village," Lobo lamented.
He said the electricity department has replaced the transformer but has failed to replace the main feeder cable.
"The main feeder cable is not a straight cable. It is broken at many places
and is connected by joints. Hence, this problem will not be resolved until the cable is replaced with a new one," Lobo added.
Another local, Gokuldas Chodankar informed that his house was on the border Pomburpa-Olaulim and Salvador-do-Mundo village.
"My house has no power supply but the neighbouring house which is part of Salvador-do-Mundo has 24-hours power supply. How is it possible," he questioned.
After a lengthy discussion, Anthony Lobo moved a resolution requesting Sarpanch, Prabhakar Halarnkar to write a strong letter to local MLA, Power Minister, Chief Secretary and electricity engineers informing them about the hardship the villagers have to face due to frequent power cuts.
The gram sabha also resolved that if the problem still continued, then the panchayat should approach the court against the electricity department.
It may be recalled that Aldona constituency was
in the news for frequent power cuts for more than a week now.
The Goan had repeatedly highlighted the plight of locals who were frustrated due to continuous power cuts during the day and night too.
Gram sabha member and former Sarpanch, Vinay Chopdekar has moved a proposal to construct a Ravindra Bhawan in Aldona constituency.
He said there is ample of space near the health center which can house the Ravindra Bhavan and resolved to send the proposal to the government.
Adv Nivon Serrao requested the panchayat to take action against the stray cattle menace, which was endangering lives of commuters.
He said stray cattle occupied the village roads during the day as well as night.
Sarpanch, Prabhakar Halarnkar informed that previous sarpanch had tried to take action against the stray cattle, but later allegations were leveled against him.
