IRB constable found dead; criminal act not ruled out

A 36-year-old police constable attached to Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) from Morjim was found dead in the premises of the Open School near Ashwin Garage at Porvorim on Thursday morning.

SP Kartik Kashyap has not ruled out foul play, but declined to comment on whether the deceased was murdered or had committed suicide.
"It is not advisable for the police to jump to any conclusion at this stage. Police are examining the case from all angles. It may be murder or suicide," he said.
Police received information that a body was lying in the premises of the Open School and Porvorim PI Paresh Naik along with a team rushed to the spot and found the body of Police Constable Kishor Shirodkar lying by the side of the open school and a scooter (GA-03-AB-4493) was fallen some metres from the body.
Police pressed a dog squad and fingerprint experts into service. After conducting the panchnama, the body was sent to Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim for post mortem.
In the meantime, Police Superintendent of Crime Branch, Kartik Kashyap reached the spot and issued instructions to PI Paresh Naik. Later, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte also reached the spot and interacted with the police.
Speaking to media persons, SP Kartik Kashyap stated that it would not be advisable for the police to jump to any conclusion at this stage.
"Police are examining the case from all angles. It may be murder or suicide. I had talks with the brothers of the deceased," said SP Kashyap.
PI Paresh Naik said they got information at about 7 am and he along with the staff rushed to the spot.
"I called the finger print experts and the dog squad. There were bruises on the face of the deceased Kishor Shirodkar and his shirt was torn. A round wire was hanging to the rafter of roof in the verandah, while beer bottles were found at the spot," informed PI Naik.
"It's not possible to say at this stage
whether it is a case of murder or suicide," said PI Naik.
PI Naik further stated that they have
received the post-mortem report from
the GMC.
"It stated that death of Kishor Shirodkar was due to asphyxia as a result of constriction of neck by ligature marked at the neck injury which was ante-mortem and fresh at the time of death and fatal in ordinary course of nature. The bruises on the face are ant bites," stated Naik.
The cause of death certificate, however, stated that the investigating officer should probe the manner of death. Porvorim police has presently registered a case of suicide, as investigations are underway.
