PanajirIf a dealer, who ought to have registered on the Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST) portal, hasn’t done so before July 31, he will be asked to pay a penalty as per the law. This was confirmed by Dipak M. Bandekar, commissioner of commercial taxes. rBandekar also informed that 140 commercial tax dealers in Goa have not yet registered on GST portal, which means they haven’t created their login ID. Bandekar said, “These dealers will have to register before July 31. If they don’t do so, the law has a provision to impose penalty on them.” rThere are close to 26,000 commercial tax dealers in Goa. Around 9,000 dealers have their annual turnover less than Rs 20 lakhs, which means it is not mandatory for them to register on GST portal. rBut, the remaining 17,000 dealers must register on GST portal. At 140 unregistered dealers, the number is not really significant. However, these dealers will also have to register. In most cases, the unregistered dealers have tried creating login ID on the GST portal, but weren’t able to do so due to certain issues like PAN mis-match. There are cases where people reported their name the way it appears on PAN card and not the way it is in PAN database.
