Fr Agnel roll past Perpetual Succour

Title aspirants Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna handed Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim a 2-0 defeat in the Salcete Taluka Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee inter school football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at the SAG Artificial Turf ground, Fatorda on Saturday.

the goan I networkrMARGAOrrMeuton Fernandes, who was at his best, opened the scoring while Brison Fernandes added the second goal as Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, turned in a rollicking rperformance. rAt the start it looked it might be an even contest with both the teams comfortable in possession. But the Verna Higher Secondary School soon switched gears as they pressed and harried Perpetual Convent, forcing them to concede possession in rtheir own half . rFr Agnel Higher Secondary came close to securing the lead when Alexinho Colaco unleashed a snap shot but it missed the target narrowly in the 10th minute. Two minutes later, Neuton Fernandes’ scorcher missed the target by a whisker, much to the disbelief of the Verna supporters.rThe change of ends made little difference to Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School's momentum and the opener duly arrived late in the second half when Neuton unleashed a stiff shot that crashed into the net, giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper.rFr Agnel scored the insurance goal at the fag end when Brison Fernandes picked up the ball from his own half and fired a long ball past a hapless Navelim goalkeeper, five minutes before the final footer.
