Worker killed in JSW coal stack mishap at MPT

A 34-year-old contract worker from Jharkhand died while another worker was injured, when a coal stack came sliding down at the JSW port in MPT in the wee hours of Friday.

VASCO:rAccording to police reports, the incident took place at about 1.30 am, when Dilip Das and Khushakat Ali (34) were adjusting the tarpaulin on the coal stack. The coal stack suddenly gave way and came sliding down on them. rThe two injured workers were rescued by the JSW Rescue Squad and rushed to a private hospital in Baina. Das was later shifted to the Chicalim Cottage Hospital where he was declared on arrival. Ali is being treated at the private hospital in Baina. rA Mormugao police team later went to the site and conducted the inquest. rWhen contacted, Mormugao PSI Melito Fernandes said they were investigating the case to ascertain if natural causes or negligence had led to the coal stack to come sliding down.
