Faulty gas weighing scales seized

Days after Benaulim villagers caught LPG delivery van employees pilfering gas red handed, officials of Legal Metrology seized two faulty weighing machines from LPG delivery vans in a surprise raid conducted in the city on Friday.

the goan I networkrMARGAOrr While one of the weighing scales turned out to be defective, the second one was being used by the gas agency without being stamped and verified by the Legal Metrology department. Senior Legal Metrology official Arun Panchwadkar said action will be taken against the gas agency as per law. r The seizure of the faulty weighing scales was effected by the Legal Metrology officials in a joint raid carried out by the Civil Supplies department and officials of Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum on Friday.rPanchwadkar said the samples collected by them will be checked to ascertain the exact weight of the cylinders and submit the report to the Civil Supplies Department for further action. r Area Officer Bharat Petroleum Vaibhag Bhagat informed that the officials are empowered to seize the underweight cylinders and initiate disciplinary proceedings ragainst the erring gas agency owners. The officials said the ongoing exercise will be continued to ensure that consumers are not cheated and that they receive the LPG cylinders as per the standard norms rand weight.
