Mopa airport will be Goa’s engine of growth: Mauvin

Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday openly batted for the proposed airport at Mopa, emphasising that it will be an engine of growth once operations begin after its commissioning.

the goan I networkrMARGAO rrWhile asserting that Dabolim airport will certainly be retained even after the commissioning of Mopa, Mauvin, who represents Dabolim constituency, said that the new airport will give a big boost to the tourism sector and the economy with the increase in the passenger traffic. r“At one time, there were many who had strong reservations regarding the proposed airport at Mopa, but even they are supporting the project today. We want both Dabolim as well as Mopa. Dabolim will be retained,” he asserted. rAllaying apprehensions of the people on Mopa airport, Mauvin said that local youth will get good jobs once the airport starts operations. r“Our local youth will be trained to take up attractive jobs at the new airport. The new airport will be an engine of growth in the state,” he said r“When these big projects take concrete shape, Goa will change within 4-5 years and become a progressive Goa. If people have any apprehensions on any project, there are agencies such as the Goa State Pollution Control Board to take care of pollution and damage to the environment. But, we cannot stop development,” he said, while referring to the infrastructural projects underway in the state, including the two new bridges across the river Mandovi and Zuari.
