Police team for matka probe: names given to HC

Goa Police on Wednesday submitted before the High Court names of SP Bossuet Silva, one Police Inspector and two police sub-inspectors to form the main strength of the Special Investigation Team to probe into matka cases.

the goan I network\rPANAJI \r\rLast week, the government had suggested that retired justice of the Bombay High Court at Goa Avinash Lawande head the SIT to probe into matka. It was supposed to submit names of police officials by this week. Besides Silva, PI Krishna Sinari has been suggested along with two sub-inspectors who will complete the officials in the team. \rOn Oct 12, 2015, the police had filed an FIR in connection with matka betting across the State and named more than 1100 bookies across the State, one politician named Kiran from Tivim, besides two Marathi newspapers -- Tarun Bharat and Pudhari -- as accused persons in the case. As a consequence of a petition in April this year, the State police began a crackdown on matka gambling across the state with several teams of police fanning out around the state raiding and arresting matka gamblers.
