the goan I networkrMARGAOrr“We had assured the people during a powerpoint presentation at the South district Collectorae before the assembly elections that the government would work out a solution to the demand of the people to build the bypass on stilts. The demand has now been accepted by the government along the 3.5 km stretch passing through Navelim and Benaulim,” he said. rAddressing the function on the occasion of the commissioning of the two STP plants at Sirvodem-Margao on Wednesday, Dhavalikar said a tender amounting to Rs 160 crore would soon be floated to build the bypass on stilts passing through the flood-prone areas of Navelim and Benaulim. r“When the government had begun work on the western bypass at a cost of Rs 280 crore, then Fisheries Minister and ex-Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado took up the demand of the people demanding the bypass on stilts. We had given an assurance that the issue would be resolved after the election and the government would soon tender the work on building the bypass on stilts at a cost of Rs 160 crore,” he said. rThe PWD Minister further assured the former fisheries minister that the government would not leave any household displaced by the western bypass on the roads. “When Avertano had taken up the issue of the two beleaguered households from Navelim-Telaulim, whose houses will go for demolition to make way for the bypass, I had personally assured that no one will be thrown on the streets. Today, I want to assure that those whose houses will make way for the bypass and other road projects will get an alternate house with a slab,” the PWD Minister further said.
