Bondla Zoo will not hear Sandhya’s roar any more

Barely six months after the death of male tiger ‘Rana’, the tigress ‘Sandhya’ from Bondla zoo passed away late Tuesday night and was cremated in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Though the government had moved a proposal to bring a pair of tigers to the zoo, it is yet to become a reality.rAccording to sources, Sandhya died due to respiratory problem. “It had crossed 14 years of age and had some health issues. We cremated Sandhya in the wee hours of Wednesday,” an officer said on condition of anonymity.rIt may be recalled that the male tiger ‘Rana’ from Bondla zoo died in December last year due to old age. Rana was 16 years old.rRana and Sandhya were brought to Goa from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in July 2009. At the time of Rana’s death, then forest minister Rajendra Arlekar had said that the State government had moved a proposal to get animals from other zoos.
