MMC collects outstanding of ` 5.28 cr

The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has managed to collect outstanding dues of Rs 5.28 crore from April to June, which is termed as a major achievement, as the council was facing financial crunch for the last few years.

the goan I networkrVASCOrrMMC, which was struggling to pay the staff monthly salary and other benefits during the three months from April to June, has managed to collect Rs 5.28 crore through trade licenses, rent, house taxes, construction fees, outstanding from the companies including Goa Shipyard Limited and government grants. r“The major contributors are Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (Rs 1.5 crore), construction/reconstruction licences (Rs 1.3 crore), GSL (Rs 50 lakh), trade licenses (Rs 23 lakh), market rent (Rs 19 lakh) and other contributions from house taxes, rent, sign boards and door-to-door garbage collection,” said MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik. r“We also managed to get the government grants which were pending from 2011 and have settled the entire backlog of the staff who have retired and we will implement the seventh pay commission in July,” added Deepali. r“For the last few years, the council had to even struggle to pay the salaries besides the retirement dues of the employees and with the recovery touching Rs 5.28 crore, we have cleared all the dues and outstanding of the staff,” said Deepali. r“Besides this amount, we are yet to receive other outstanding and once the money comes to our treasury, we will be self sufficient and will be able to meet all the financial crisis,” stated Deepali. rWhen asked whether the council had paid the outstanding bills of the PWD (water) and the electricity department, Deepali said talks are going on with both the departments to pay the amount under one-time settlement scheme. rSpeaking on renovation of the municipal building and construction of the chief officer’s bungalow, Deepali said the renovation work would start by August 30 and as far as construction of the chief officer’s bungalow, the work order is already allotted to the contractor and construction will start by August end.
