Addressing media persons, party president Anand Shirodkar said, “Merely four months prior to State Assembly elections our party was formed. Despite this, due to the effect of agitation by Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch we managed to separate MGP from BJP, which we would say was our biggest achievement.”
Stating that despite favourable conditions in many of the constituencies, GSM had to contest only in five due to the coalition dharma, he said, “Considering the fact that we got more than 10,000 votes, if we had to contest in all 40 constituencies, we would have garnered at least one lakh votes.”
GSM will announce its 25-member north Goa district committee on July 2, and South Goa district committee on July 7. GSM will also hold a mega convention of its workers in Panaji in August.
Speaking about the upcoming by-polls, Shirodkar said, “As far as the by-polls are concerned, we will have strategic participation.”
GSM however expressed interest in contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“We plan to field candidates for both seats. We are certain of garnering one lakh votes and securing at least one seat,” he said.
