From issuing e-challans to reading smart cards, the department has begun work in acquiring the equipment required and set in place other requirements to make the move successful.
In this regard, the department has given State-run IT service delivery agency Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) the task of setting up the required infrastructure to implement the e-services.
“The target is to have everything in place within six months. The department has given GEL a four month deadline to have the system in place,” said a department official. After GEL has the system in place, the department will undertake an all State training programme.
“We are also going in for electronic challaning. The deadline given to GEL is four months. After that it may take time for training and getting equipment,” said the official.
The department has therefore begun the process of procuring smart card readers and tablets that would be used by the RTO on a daily basis. Smart card licenses have been issued in the State since 2006, but the department was not supplied with machines that are able to read them. The department had also begun issuing smart card registration certificates (RCs).
Even in cases of license suspensions, the process has always been manual, but with the e-infrastructure in place, the offender’s information and details of offence will be online.
