The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Flancy Gomes on Thursday morning was informal in nature, but the newly-elected members discussed the issue of garbage collection and disposal facing the village.
The newly-elected members mooted a number of suggestions how to go about the burning issue. The previous body led by then Sarpanch Tulsidas Desai had been knocking the doors of the district Collector, South during the last term with a plea to allocate a small portion of the Communidade land acquired for the purpose of setting up a multi-utility project, for waste segregation.
Today’s informal meeting also discussed the possibility of getting into possession of the Panchayat body land adjoining the government acquired property for the purpose of garbage disposal.
After the meeting, deputy Sarpanch Deepak Mangalam told The Goan that the meeting was purely an informal interaction amongst the newly-elected panch members, while hastening to add that the garbage issue discussed at today’s meeting will be deliberate and discussed at the official meeting scheduled next week. “During the informal discussions, we have identified a piece of land adjoin the government acquired property. The meeting of the Panchayat body will take an appropriate decision on the issue”, he said.
