Mapusa Municipal Council Market Committee Chairman Sanjay Mishal swung into action asking a municipality official to ban the vendor from doing business in the market.
“Instructions have been issued to the market inspector not to allow the particular vendor to do any business in the market permanently. Henceforth, serious action will be taken if anyone is found playing any type of mischief,” Mishal said.
It may be recalled on Wednesday, a video was doing the round showing a man apparently washing coriander leaves in the flowing gutter water in Mapusa market.
The video, which was circulated on different platforms of the social media, portrayed the civic authorities in poor light. The market committee chairman said that MMC would not tolerate any nuisance from any of the vendors in the market.
“The decision to remove the vendor is in a way to pass a stern message to errant vendors in the market,” he said.
Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) Vice-Chairman Sandip Falari said the agency, which was undertaking work in the area, would soon cover the open gutters with concrete slabs.
“Once we receive the concrete slabs, the open gutter will be covered,” Falari said.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar informed that the flowing water in the gutter as seen in the video was from the sewerage pipeline.
“The GSUDA contractors are testing the sewerage line and the water is from the sewerage network. We have asked them to stop the flow of water,” Kavlekar said.
