Seven likely to sail through unopposed in 5 Salcete VPs

As many seven candidates in the panchayat areas of Dramapur, Camurlim, Navelim, Chandor and Sao Jose de Areal are set to be elected unopposed as they are the only candidates in the fray after day-long scrutiny process on Friday.

The seven-member village panchayat of Dramapur-Sirlim is heading the list with as many as three candidates set to be elected unopposed, including Sanjana Chari, who is the lone contestant in the fray in two wards – 3 and 4. The office of the returning officer said that Sanjana would have to decide at the time of withdrawal which panchayat ward she would like to represent. 
The other candidate, who will be declared elected unopposed to the Dramapur-Sirlim Panchayat body will be Remie Fernandes from Ward 2 after the Returning Office received his lone nomination paper.   
Ida Cardozo e Fernandes, who is contesting from Ward 8 of Navelim panchayat is also set to be declared elected unopposed. While Ritina Oliveira is expected to be declared winner in ward 1 of Sao Jose de Areal, Mafaldina Martins is also heading for unopposed victory in Ward 6 of Chandor panchayat.    
Joanita Alemao from Ward 4 of Camurlim is also set to be be elected unopposed.   
Returning officer, Manoj Korgaonkar told The Goan that he has posted for hearing two objections received from candidate contesting for the Cavelossim and Dramapur village panachayats.   
An objection received from a contestant for the Curtorim village panchayat will also be decided on Saturday.   
Barring one, there’s not been rejection of nomination papers at the time of scrutiny on the basis of caste consideration, sources said.
