Areal down Davorlim, enter Raia Cup semis

Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club downed Sporting Club of Davorlim 2-0 and romped into the semi-finals of All Goa FC Raia Cup inter village football tournament organized by FC Raia at Panchayat Grounds, Raia on Thursday.Sao Jose de Areal held the upper hand in both the halves with their midfielders and forwards calling the shots.

Striker Alvito Silva breached the rival defence and picked the ball from Rayman Fernandes and the former moved inside the rival penalty box, however rival defender averted the danger by clearing the ball for safety. 
Sporting Davorlim took time and once they struck rhythm  and nearly rocked the rival goal but  Joel Colaco’s rasping shot hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Davorlim supporters. Hayston Dias provided the breakthrough in the 10th minute when his shot beat the rival goalkeeper hands down off a pass from David Colaco.Stung by that setback, Sporting Davorlim regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp but Mark Borges’ smart header missed the target narrowly. Crossing over, Sporting Davorlim came close to cancelling the lead but Mark Borges’ stiff shot kissed the post in the 46th minute. 
Davorlim were unlucky in the 49th minute when Gomes’ header missed the mark narrowly. Unfazed, Areal went into the attacking mode and nearly scored the insurance goal in the 50th minute when striker Rayman Fernandes misfired from close range. Rayman sealed the rival’s fate late in the second half when his curling shot crashed into the net.
Poriebhat trounce Ambulor Boys
MARGAO: United Boys of Poriebhat trounced Ambulor Boys 4-1 to move into the semi-finals of All Nagoa-Verna late Benjamin Barretto  football tournament at village panchayat sports complex, Verna on Thursday. Poriebhat dominated the game. However, it  was Ambulor Boys who drew the first blood in the 7th minute through the boots of Elroy Moniz. Stung by the early reversal, Poriebhat intensified their attacks and two minutes later Anthony Rego neutralized the lead. In the 24th minute, striker Anthony Rego who was in the thick of action regained the lead and scored a brace. Cyrus Noronha put the issue beyond doubt in the 55th minute.Frazier Moniz fired the last nail into the rival’s coffin at the fag end.
