MARGAO
As Aquemkars complained of garbage nuisance staring at them day in and day out, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday told the Margao Municipal Council to immediately shift the waste dumping location which is meters away from Cine Vishant, immediately and put up a board along the road warning unscrupulous citizens from dumping garbage at the site.
Kamat along with ward Councillor Avinash Shirodkar, MMC Vice-Chairperson Doris Texeira, Chief Officer Y B Tawde, market inspector Sanjay Sanguelkar descended at the spot on Monday evening for an inspection, only to be taken aback by the waste menace at the spot.
The local residents complained to the MLA that the dumping of waste by outsiders, who dump all sorts of waste at the spot, is often left overnight leading to unbearable stench.
After giving the people a patient hearing, the Margao MLA told the MMC to forthwith shift the dumping site by dismantling the shed and install a couple of benches at the spot. He also told the Chief Officer to install a board at the site with a warning that violators will be fined Rs 5000 for dumping waste at the site. The MLA also suggested to the civic body to explore the possibility of installing CCTV cameras at the spot to discourage unscrupulous elements from dumping waste at the site.
“This nuisance cannot be allowed to continue even for a single day. Local residents do not dump wate at the spot, but somehow, all the waste finds its way at the site from outside. This should stop immediately,” Kamat added.
