Parrikar on Thursday held a meeting of key party workers in Panaji including the corporators of the Corporation of City of Panaji and members of  the party’s Panaji mandal at his official residence in Altinho. Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker was also present at the meeting.
Sources present at the meeting informed that Parrikar sought the opinion of the workers on which constituency he should contest from. He also informed that there was a strong demand from Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral as well as party workers that he should contest the by-poll from their constituency.
“Workers from the Panaji mandal of the party asked him to contest from the city because he was the chief minister when he left the constituency for Delhi. And that,
he is the chief minister of the state once again he should represent the same constituency,” the sources informed.
“He has been representing Panaji for the past several years, so he should not leave the constituency now,” stated the source.
At the meeting, Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker also expressed his willingness to resign for Parrikar to contest.
“He said that he got an opportunity to become an MLA after Parrikar was elevated as the Defence Minister and he would be more than willing to give away his seat.
The MLA also said that would remain a loyal party worker and work towards strengthening the party,” informed sources.
Meanwhile, Parrikar also had a meeting with Cabral at his official residence on Thursday night.
Though Parrikar has not announced his final decision on which constituency he will contest from, it is likely to be clear on Sunday.
