Since it’s the main road and keeping the interest of motorists in mind, the officials have decided to initially carry out the work only at nights to minimize inconvenience to the public.
“Initially, the work of laying the manholes will begin after 11 pm and end at around 4 am. In the morning, the road will be open for public,” said Atanu Das, Assistant Engineer, Simplex Infrastructures Ltd.
He said seven manholes will be placed along the stretch and it will take around 10 days to accomplish the job.
Although the road will be open for traffic during the day for some days, sources said the stretch will be totally shut for traffic for at least two to three days.
Former Mapusa Municipal Council chairperson Sandip Falari said Simplex officials will try to minimize inconvenience caused to public and the motorists while carrying out the last phase of work.
“As of now they are carrying out the work late in the night and allowing light motor vehicular traffic to pass by on one side. Later on, for two to three days, the road will have to be closed for all traffic,” Falari said.
He said the traffic police have already been informed about the necessity of having to shut the road.
Sources in the Traffic Police said during those two to three days, light motor vehicles will be diverted from behind the Laxmi Narayan temple and buses will be asked to take the NH17 via Green Park Hotel.
