Mid-day meals coverage for upper primary not complete

Goa is yet to cover over 15 per cent of the students at upper primary level under the Mid-day Meal Scheme (MDMS).

“Coverage of children is 90 per cent at primary and 84 per cent at upper primary level against enrolment. Joint Secretary appreciated the good coverage at primary level and advised the State officials to take necessary steps for improving the coverage at upper primary level also,” 
stated the minutes of the meeting of the Programme Approval Board (PAB) of MDMS.   
The meeting was held to consider the Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWP&B) 2017-18 under the MDMS 
for Goa.  
It was also revealed that only 56 per cent of the honorarium to cook-cum-helpers was paid during the first three quarters of 2016-17.  
“It was also informed that State has engaged 2696 cook-cum-helpers against the PAB approval of 2777,” noted the minutes. Additionally, the State Government has also been advised to pay the honorarium to them in a time-bound manner.  
“Director (MDM), Govt of India observed that only 26 per cent funds have been utilised under management, monitoring and 
evaluation (MME) funds,” it stated further.
