Ambelim Sports Club edged past Social Cultural Club of Loutolim 1-0 to move into the quarter-finals of 28th St Rock

Super Soccer football tournament organised by St Rock’s YC, Calata at Calata-Majorda grounds on Monday.
Both teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kep the crowds on their toes but defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel.
In the first six minutes of the game striker Samson Simoes took control of the ball after receveing a pass from Jade Colaco but rival defender stood tall in frustrating his attacks.
At the other end, Sandeep Konde came close in taking the lead for Loutolim as he dribbled past a couple of defenders. However, Samson Simoes averted the danger.Post resumption, both the teams went all out in search of the match-winner and once again Hilario Fernandes tried long ranging solo for Loutolim which flew over the cross bar of Ambelim in the 46th minute. Ambelim did lag behind and striker Jade Colaco unleashed a stiff shot which was well-blocked by rival goalkeeper. The all-important goal came in the 55th minute when striker Samson Simoes’ curling shot kissed the cross bar and eluded the rival goalkeeper off an assist from Jade Colaco. Ambelim SC will meet Verna SC in the quarter-final on May 1.
