On a hot evening, UCT were led by goals from Jaison Dias (21’, 41’ and 55’), Anil Shviolkar (3’) and Clinton Niasso (90+3’) while Izahar Khan (60’-penalty) scored the consolation goal for the
Vagator side.
The superiority of the UCT lads was evident right from the start. Physically, technically and in terms of skills, they were a class apart from their rookie opponents. With promising left wing midfielder Anil Shivoilkar and Chadwick Furtado bossing the midfield, Clinton Niasso and Jaison Dias provided width to their attack with runs on the wings.
UCT broke the deadlock in the very third minute when Anil Shivolkar picked up the ball from Clinton Niasso and the former beat the rival goalkeeper Sherwin D’Cunha with a snap shot. The Vagator Parish lads were still recovering from the jolt when Jaison Dias’s rasping shot deflected from a rival defender and Jaison Dias pounced on it to make it 2-0 in the 21st minute.
In the 41st minute, UCT once again had the score keepers busy with a Jaison Dias strike. Clinton Niasso turned the provider as he lined up Jaison, who was afforded some space to shoot by the opposition. The diminutive striker found the mark with a powerful shot.
Going into the second half with similar intent, UCT continued their good work as goals kept coming. Jaison Dias registered his hat-trick in the 55th minute thanks to rival captain and central defender Navin Salgaocar’s folly as Jaison Dias punished the Vagator goalkeepr Sherwin with a clinical finish.
On the other hand, Vagator Parish -- who were kept quiet in the opening session -- occasionally came to attack and their efforts bore fruit in the 60th minute when Myron Periera needlessly tackled rival striker Sylvister Vaz inside the penalty box and referee Jose Fernandes awarded them a spot kick. Izahar Khan sent the UCT goalkeeper Ozen Silva the wrong way for the reducer. UCT however continued to find scoring chances but Jaison Dias and Clinton Niasso were not on target. But soon Clinton buried substitute Aldrich Coelho’s measured pass into the goal to complete what was a compelling
performance.
With this win, UCT took their tally to 16 points from 8 matches while Vagator Parish stay on 7 points from 8 matches. In another match at DYSA ground, Curtorim, Curtorim Gymkhana and Panjim Footballers settled for a goalless draw.
