Following directions from the Supreme Court in January this year, Rane will face trial under Section 506 (threat to kill) of Indian Penal Code for having allegedly threatening to kill Adv Aires Rodrigues on July 31, 2007, over phone.
In the 73-page chargesheet filed against Rane, who recently resigned as the Congress MLA from Valpoi, the Old Goa Police named nine witnesses including his wife Divya Rane. As per the chargesheet the then health minister called Adv Rodrigues from his wife’s mobile at around 8.15 am on July 31, 2007 and threatened him by saying, “This is Vishwajeet Rane. Be careful. I will get you shot”.
Presently, Rane is dubbed to be the front runner for a cabinet berth with the portfolio of health department in the new government.
