CANACONA:
A post in Belfast Telegraph, a UK website, stated that “a hearse van brought the remains of Daniellle McLaughlin from Dublin to the Donegal Seaside town of Buncrana. Her mother Andrea, four sisters and friends received her body.”
“The funeral will be conducted on Thursday morning, where a mass for McLaughlin will take place at St Mary’s Church, Cockhill,” informed the website.
The family had demanded a second postmortem to compare with the one performed in India following the rape and murder of Danielle in Canacona-Goa on March 13 night. It was conducted at Dublin on Monday itself.
The Buncrana residents held a candlelit vigil last week, drawing hundreds of people coming together to pay her tribute and to call for justice.
While the postmortem conducted in Goa confirmed rape and gave cause of death as cerebral damage and constriction of neck (strangulation), the outcome of the postmortem conducted by doctors at Dublin on Monday is awaited.
Meanwhile, the accused, Viket Bhagat, was shifted to a Margao cell under judicial custody on Monday, after being held in police custody for 13 days since his arrest on March 14.
