The National Green Tribunal has ordered disconnection of power supply to allegedly illegal shacks being operated without any permission from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority as an interim measure as the case against them proceeds.
PANAJI
The order comes on the basis of a petition filed by Kashinath Shetye who alleged that the shacks were completely illegal as they were “conducting illegal and unauthorised activities namely running business of shacks without any permission from the authorities in Survey No.215/4 of Village Anjuna falling in CRZ - I and CRZ - III in total violation of CRZ Notification, 2011.”
The NGT noted how the defence counsels could not dispute that the shacks did not have permissions from the GCZMA. The NGT Pune bench thus noted: “We do not see any material on record to suggest that the shacks in Survey No 215/4 in Village Anjuna Bardez, Goa have permission to run business of shacks.”
“We direct stay to running of the business of shacks. We further direct disconnection of electricity and water
supply to the said shacks in Survey No 215/4 in Village Anjuna, Bardez, Goa,” the
NGT said.
