But with the retail price of mancurad mangoes presently hovering over Rs 800 to Rs 600 a dozen, the majority of Goans will have to wait for at least two more weeks to taste their favourite summer fruit.
A quick walk around the Panjim municipal market showed that the price of mancurad mangoes is pegged at an average of Rs 650 a dozen. A vendor in the Panaji market, who is exclusively selling the otherwise much-sought after mangoes in the State, had displayed various sizes of the prized mancurad. “The largest and the juiciest mancurad are priced at Rs 800 a dozen. I also have the average sized fruit at Rs 600 and the smallest size of mancurad is presently being sold at Rs 450 to Rs 400 depending on the freshness,” he said adding that the rush for the golden fruit has yet to set in owing to the high prices.
