MARGAO:
‘Where will I and my children go if my house is demolished to make way for the western bypass. This is the only house I possess. Please spare my house,” Pereira pleaded with the PWD authorities as they descended at Telaulim village to start work on the western bypass with heavy police protection. Pereira claimed that she has not even been paid compensation in lieu of acquisition of her house by the PWD. State Congress President Luizinho Faleiro and local villager George Barretto demanded to know how the government can displace the elderly woman and her family without paying the compensation. “She is a registered mundkar of the acquired land in question. How is it that the PWD did not pay her the compensation,” Faleiro and George argued.
PWD, NH-17 senior engineer, Panandikar, who was present at the spot, claimed that the PWD had paid compensation to the owner of the land in question.
