Vasant lifts 8th mtca chess title

Chicalim’s Vasant Naik drew with Yash Paul in the final round to clinch the 8th MTCA Chess League title in the rapid tournament, to remain unbeaten by scoring 6.5 points from the 7 rounds in the league held at Shireen Complex, Dabolim recently under the auspices of Goa Chess Association.

There were 53 players out of which 20 were rated players from Mormugao Taluka who played under Swiss League System. Vasant crushed Anirudh Parsekar’s dream of  winning this match. Anirudh has already won four matches and is very close to being declared the  league champion as the league is still open with four  more matches to go as all other four players  Vasant Naik, Bhimappa Harijan, Rudresh Fadte and Ayush Shetkar having won only one match each to their credit.   
Aniru defeated Fadte Rudresh in last round to settle on the second place by scoring 6 points, whereas Yash Paul finished third with 5.5 points. The prizes were sponsored by M/s Madhav Kamat Associates and Ad-City Cicalim. Prizes were given at the hands of chief guest  Cherrian Kuruvella, Principal of Airway Public School, Vidyanagar Dabolimo and guest of honours Iqbal Hussain Sayed and Shireen, Sayed owners of Shireen Complex in the presence of Kishor Bandekar, President MTCA, Mukund Kambli, Swapnil Hoble, Sujan Sukhatnkar,  Ajay Thorat. Swapnil Hoble was the chief arbiter of the tournament.
