Fans of EA Sports’ FIFA games have spent years building teams and taking on competition in foreign leagues. Most of these created teams will have the fan favourites and the icons in the current football world.
With India yet to make a mark on the global football stage, there are no Indian players that play in any of the foreign leagues such as the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga, the German Bundelsiga and Italian Serie A among others.
All that could possibly change in 2018 and fans in Goa can get a chance to play with their favourite team and players in a new league that might be included in FIFA - Indian Super League. This means, you get to decide how FC Goa should play, if it should changed the tactics of coach Zico and go for an attacking formation or if it should sit tight, defend and counter attack. With so many football stalwarts in the ISL, fans also get the chance to rope in marque players such as Brazil’s Roberto Carlos, Italy’s Alessandro Del Piero, France’s Florent Malouda among other such football legends.
Indian fans petitioned for it, and in all likelihood the Indian Super League will be added to the ever-growing list of competitive leagues in FIFA 18. ISL currently sits second on the FIFA fan voting website with 154,000 votes as compared to Chinese Super League’s 156,000, with the top three leagues likely to be included in this year’s edition. The German third division is the sitting at third place among the teams vying for a potential inclusion in September. If included, the process will see photo-shoots of players and roster information will be shared with EA Sports.
Goan fans are relishing the idea of checking out their heroes such as Romeo Fernandes and Mandar Rao Dessai on the screen. Social media was abuzz with fans looking forward to playing the ISL in the next FIFA edition and taking on FC’s Goa’s arch rivals like Atletico de Kolkata and Chennaiyin FC.
