Get ready for Shigmo!

Goa's popular religious Hindu Festival is all set to kick-start on March 14 and will continue in various rural parts of Goa, spanning over a fortnight, with different days earmarked for celebrations in different areas. The float parade will begin at Ponda on March 14 while Panaji city will usher in the parade on March 18. The parade will end in Pernem and Sanquelim on March 27

Shigmo parade is a religious Hindu festival filled with colors, rmusic, dance and floats. It depicts the life of a Goan with elaborate rtraditional folk dances like Ghode Modni and Fugdi which are performed ron streets in massive troupes along the procession. The floats usually rdepict a lot of mythological scenes.The streets of Goa during Shigmotsavr are lit up with attractive décor, lively parades, music and dance rperformances. r
Traditionally it was celebrated as spring’s biggest festival which rhonoured the homecoming of the warriors who had left their homes and rfamilies at the end of Dusshera to fight the invaders. r
The parade begins with a bang when the people of Goa dress up in rcolourful outfits, holding multi coloured flags and playing large rmusical instruments like the Dhol Tasha and flutes in processions acrossr the cities. r
This time around the parade will begin at 4.30 sharp. r
