Ghost in the Shell is the name of a Japanese animated series, a cult one at that, which has spawned dozens of sci-fi movies and ideas, including The Matrix series of films and related content. It’s that powerful a story and an idea. For years, people have clamoured for a live action movie adaptation of the film. That dream has finally come through, but wait, there’s controversy galore. Let’s start with the main character, The Major. The Major is a Japanese girl, a cyborg. In the movie, she’s played by Scarlett Johansson. Umm, but isn’t Scar-Jo white, and you know, American? Yep, and she now plays a Japanese cyborg. Let’s whitewash everything, shall we? Scar-Jo has spoken about the decision to cast her, and well, who can blame her for taking the part? Look at that gorgeous face, you know. Anyway, she plays the major, who flits through this new digital world that they inhabit. Watch this movie if you’re a sci-fi fan, because even though they have probably changed many things that were inherently Japanese to begin with, it’ll be delightful look into what influenced so many of our favourite movies. And then there’s Scarlet Johansson. Even the trailer looks awesome, from that angle. Check the trailer out by copying the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHQijA_U4qk or just scan the QR code
