Universal’s reboot of Scarface will open on August 10, 2018. Few days ago, Universal studio announced that the Brian De Palma directorial gangster film 'Scarface,' which gave the world, an iconic character like Tony Montana, will be getting a reboot. The 1983 version of Scarface, earned $65.9M worldwide and was nominated for three Golden Globes: for lead drama actor Al Pacino, supporting actor Steven Bauer, and original score by Giorgio Moroder. Now, it looks like, the project is in good hands as Universal studios may have found the right guys to helm the project. The reboot is a modern day story, set in Los Angeles, and focuses on a Latino gangster. The studio said that the Fargo filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen are rewriting the script, but that they won't be directing the movie. Universal executives have been meeting 'Hell or High Water' director, David Mackenzie and Pete Berg, the director of 'Deepwater Horizon' for helming the epic gangster reboot. Pete has a good relationship with the studio as he directed 'Battleship' and 'Lone Survivor' under their banner. Pete also acted as David's boss, when he had hired David for directing 'Commancheria,' which was later titled 'Hell or High Water'. The movie is dated to release on August 10, 2018 and will feature Rogue one Diego Luna in the lead role. Currently, Scarface is the only major studio release on that summer weekend.
