Meryl Streep responds to the manner in which United States president Donald Trump had called her over-rated. Earlier this year, while accepting an award at the Golden Globes, without mentioning Trump by name, Streep had spoken about being broken hearted after watching Trump mock a disabled reporter. Trump immediately criticized her on twitter and claimed she was one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood. Streep decided to call out the US president once again, this time at the Human Rights Campaign’s 2017 gala and said she had been invited for this function even though she is the most overrated, over-decorated, and currently, over-berated actress of her generation. Streep who has just received her 19th Oscar nomination, added that the 'the whip of the executive can, through a twitter feed, lash and intimidate, punish and humiliate, delegitimise the press and imagined enemies with spasmodic regularity and easily provoked predictability'. “It’s terrifying to put the target on your forehead, and it sets you up for all sorts of attacks and armies of brownshirts and bots and worse, and the only way you can do it is to feel you have to. You have to. You don’t have an option. You have to,” said Streep. The legendary actress, told attendees at the H.R.C. gala that in the end, the current administration could serve as a valuable wake-up call and wondered if Trump's catastrophic instinct to retaliate would lead the country to a nuclear winter.
