We all appreciate a small amount of change in our surroundings ever so often. It brings in a fresh perspective as well as a positive atmosphere. When doing up a bedroom one must remember that 'A bedroom is an expression of who you are', hence it best to choose your style before you get down to the actual decor plans. Have a keen eye and an open mind and you will realise that ordinary things around you can be converted into something surprisingly quirky and utterly useful. There are some easy and inexpensive DIY solutions to turn your room into an insanely awesome place!

Rearrange your furniture

Moving a piece of furniture from one side of the room to the other can often make a world of difference. You should begin by assessing the layout and then testing different placements. Play around with the light arrangement, move your desk or reading space (could be your bed) closer to the window so you have more natural light to work with. You never know how this may look or work in your space. During the day, add decorative throw pillows against the back wall to turn the bed into a "couch."

Conceal to prevent clutter

When it comes to small spaces, keeping unnecessary clutter concealed is the key to a neat room and a neat room is always picture perfect! Having ample storage solution is the key to battling clutter! If you don't have enough storage space fret not! Get simple plastic baskets or shelves to sort your books and souvenirs. Paint them with acrylic colours to match your decor, line the inside with old textile and voila! You have some chic looking storage

Use washi tape in unusual ways

Washi tapes are quite a fad these days, with floral, quirky or geometric patterns they are eye catching as well as soothing. If not washi you can always use plain electric tape in different colours. Use them to make decorative frame borders around pictures of friends, family or your favorite celebrity. Use them as decals to make geometric patterns or quotes. Or give your furniture a complete makeover!

Fairy lights? Yes, they’re cool!

Post Christmas or Diwali the prettily twinkling fairy lights are put back into old boxes and stacked up in the loft for the next festive season. Now they have reasons to shine the year round. Make a decorative pattern as a headboard to light up your room and get a shiny headboard. Paint old glass bottles and put the lights for a charming night light. Or simply illuminate your photos by hanging them alongside the twinkle lights.

What every desk needs

Every room needs an adequate place to work, and every desk needs the essentials for an effective study experience. Keep your workspace clean and organized; a messy, stressful environment may not be quite as inspiring. Use desk organizing accessories or drawers to keep clutter at bay and all of the necessities within reach. Plus, a chic and comfortable desk chair doesn't hurt, either. Turning old shoe boxes into organizers is one of the easiest and cheapest DIY's, you could also use your old mug with the broken handle that you find so difficult to let go, into a pen stand, or a makeup brush holder.

Start an inspiration board

Hang a decorative memo board and use it to post things that inspire you and make you happy, whether it's a magazine cutout, a recipe, a quote or pictures of friends. This inspiration board will keep you striving forward each day in a positive way.

Transform that bland wall

You know the one with a lot of blank space and not enough stuff to pin up? Exactly! Change that into an art form, go to a local digital printer and get a cheap flex printed with a blown up picture you clicked that works just as good as any expensive wallpaper! Or get your artistic side out and paint a masterpiece. Remember, how as a kid you always wanted to write on walls but you weren't allowed. Now make a graffiti space and call in your friends to have them write messages for you. Or turn it into quotes and motivation space, and scribble down some powerful words and every time you feel low, you know which corner to turn to.

Add some green to your room

Adding some green inside your room is a very good thing because plants help clean the air and provide more oxygen. The colour green has been considered the most soothing colour for the eye. It has a calming effect and it can help reduce stress. Green your room for tranquillity and health. Visit the nursery for some cheerful and cheap plants. Use old ceramic wear or paint a quirky mug and plant your greens. If you find that caring for a plant is daunting since you might not water it every day, opt for succulent varieties or cacti, if you want a more daring approach try a terrarium.

Go ahead and give some of these ideas a try and turn your old room into a fabulous new space.
