Hawk’s eye over election activities: North Collector

District Election Officer (DEO) and North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan on Tuesday said election related activities were being monitored on a daily basis with the help of the flying squad and surveillance team.

A total of 573 cases were registered under section 107 CrPC under preventive action. Of these, 410 were bounded over as cases of good conduct. Under 110 CrPC, Mohanan said they had bounded over 62 cases.   
In association with the excise department, liquor seizures totaled 321.07 L amounting to Rs 48,067. With the last day of nomination on Wednesday and with campaigns ongoing around the state, the DEO said a keen eye was being kept on the happenings.   
“The campaign period has entered a critical phase. All flying squads, video surveillance teams and sector officers are under watch and will cover every rally and meeting. We are keeping a watch on cash transactions in association with the Income Tax department and through banks as well as the movement of certain goods and articles,” she said. In all, the North Goa district has 10 static surveillance teams and one team of the flying squad in each of its 19 constituencies. She also said show-cause notices were issued to 87 persons that had yet to deposit their arms. In all, 2,437 arms have been deposited in the Collectorate.   
Nine vulnerable polling stations were also identified in the constituencies of St Cruz and Calangute. Vulnerable persons were also identified and were being watched. Regarding the altercation that was reported in Pernem on Monday, Mohanan said directions were sent to returning officers to strictly maintain the 100 meter radius boundary outside their offices.   
An entirely women managed polling station will also be present in each assembly constituency that will be managed by female polling personnel including the security. “This is to highlight the importance of bringing female personnel into mainstream and increase confidence of the women voters. One polling station in Panaji has been identified for the disabled,” she said. VVPAT awareness campaigns have been taken in all constituencies. A special function is planned for January 25 which is celebrated as National Voters Day.
