Addressing a news conference in the city, BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar said they are extending unconditional support to Gawade to defeat Dhavalikar.
“Gawade had approached us to seek support. After we got good feedback at the party meeting at Mardol, we took all the workers into confidence and we unanimously decided to back him. We want to defeat MGP. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Shripad Naik will campaign in Priol to elect Gawade,” Tendulkar said.
“I challenge the MGP to declare only three constituencies from where it can win. Except BJP, all political parties including MGP have done setting with each other,” he said.
Gawade admitted that he had sought BJP’s support for this assembly election. “I want to see development in Priol constituency. I will contest as independent with BJP’s support,” he said.
Former Priol MLA Vishwas Satarkar said Priol was sidelined for last 10 years.
Block president Shivaji Gaude, Satish Madkaikar and others were present for the news conference.
