CANACONA
Following mass resignations from BJP’s various blocks and memberships after Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar was denied party ticket to contest the assembly elections, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to meet party block members in a bid to diffuse the situation.
According to reliable sources, Parrikar has reportedly asked the BJP South Goa District Committee to convene an urgent meeting of party functionaries, who submitted or signed their resignation letters from their respective positions on Saturday at a private hotel in Canacona on Monday.
Parrikar has reportedly assured to personally interact with each of the disgruntled party workers in a bid to do damage control after giving party ticket to Vijay Poi Khot.
Given the responsibility of bringing all the disgruntled block leaders to meet Parrikar, South-Goa District President Sarvanand Bhagat was personally calling every disgruntled block member of constituency Mandal, Mahila Morcha and Yuva Morcha, requesting them to attend the meeting on Monday evening, sources informed.
It is learnt that many block members have refused to attend the meeting and have directly told Bhagat that after their resignation they are not even members of the party, and no more interested to meet Parrikar as well.
Some of the resigned leaders reportedly also refused to attend Monday’s meet saying since party has not given any consideration to their views nor explained the reason for the decision to allot ticket to someone other than Tawadkar, they are no more interested to know the views of party leadership, informed the reliable source.
There are however strong indications that some party workers who signed resignation letters on Saturday may return to the party fold, with condition that Tawadkar will not be totally blacked out from the party, if if he considers to contest the assembly election on different platform.
There are also indications that some block members could reconsider their decision to leave the party, considering BJP is in power at the Centre and the State and
any disassociation with the party will be not advantageous in future.
