This New Year was special for the prisoners at the Hindalga Central Prison, as the Diocese of Belagavi in collaboration with the prison ministry organised New Year celebrations for the inmates on Sunday.

The entertainment programme presented by the choir of Holy Family Church, Londa, to entertain the inmates on the New Year Day was the highlight of the programme. Bishop of the Diocese of Belagavi Dr Peter Machado was the chief guest, while prison superintendent T P Sheshadri presided over the programme.

In his address, Bishop Machado invoked special blessings of God on the inmates and their families.

“As we usher into the New Year with new hope, may God the Almighty shower upon you and your families His choicest blessings and give strength to you and your families as you go through these trying hours of sentence,” Bishop Machado said.

Speaking on the occasion, prison Superintendent Sheshadri urged prisoners to forget the past and resolve to begin a new life.

“You should be identified for your good behaviour and lead a serene life once you are released from the bondage of prison. Along with you, we also wish you and your families a happy New Year,” he said.

The choir belonging to Holy Family Church, Londa, under the guidance of James and John Lobo presented an entertainment programme packed with Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Konkani songs. Some inmates too exhibited their singing skills on the occasion.

Secretary of the Diocesan Mission for Prisons Sr Lavina, joint secretary Sheela Monteiro, Freeda Sequeira, Jerome Andrade, Sr Prescilla and others were present.
